The greater Toronto area is known as the epicenter of machine learning, and is one of the world’s foremost hubs for AI research and development. Toronto is home to world-class talents due to renowned universities and institutions that are actively conducting cutting-edge research in AI. Moreover, Toronto boasts a vibrant ecosystem of startups, established companies, and government initiatives dedicated to advancing the field of AI. With its diverse talent pool, strong academic background, and supportive infrastructure, Toronto has become a global leader in AI innovation.  

The Samsung AI Center Toronto (SAIC-Toronto) was established in 2018 as part of Samsung’s effort to tap into the vibrant AI ecosystem and position itself as a leading player in the global AI landscape. Samsung’s global AI research efforts seek to explore and develop innovative AI technologies with the potential to directly impact current and future Samsung products used by hundreds of millions of users worldwide.  

SAIC-Toronto is led by Dr. Michael S. Brown, an expert in computer vision and in-camera processing, and a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, York University. SAIC-Toronto is located at MaRS Discovery District in the heart of Toronto, and next to the University of Toronto.
